South African Silver Krugerrand was created in 2017 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its popular Gold Krugerrand coinage with the release of a Silver Krugerrand. The Silver Krugerrand was originally intended to last only through the 50th anniversary and had a limited mintage of 1 million coins.
Then in 2018 the South African Mint and Rand Refinery combined forces to release the 1 oz South African Silver Krugerrand coin. Different from the 2017 Silver Krugerrand, these coins became part of a new heritage which sees the Silver Krugerrand issued on an annual basis with an unlimited mintage. The coins include 1 Troy oz of .999 pure silver. The South African Silver Krugerrand coin is very popular with investors, and may be used to fund Individual Retirement Account investments.
